Features of Computer Network:

• Performance : is measured in terms of response time.
• Data Sharing
• Backup : keeping data on servers
• Reliability : after failure, fast recovery
• Software and Hardware Compatibility : we should use stored data in any software or hardware (OSI a uygun üretimler sorun çıkarmadan çalışır)
• Scalability : it should be possible for adding new devices into existing network
• Security : i can get the data transmitting to me, without any loss.

Physical topology of network is with the cabling layout.

Logical topology of network is with the signals act on network.

Star topology : every node connects to a central device that called hub or switch. This is the most widely used physical topology.

We use Mesh topology in Wide Area Networks(WAN), and often a hybrid approach is used in the mesh. This topology is secure and the most fault tolerant topology.

Tree topology = star + bus topologies

Point to point topology gives only one communication path.

Hybrid topology is the combination of two or more different types of topologies.

In a bus topology, fault detection is very hard.

Proxy server : ağdaki diğer makinelerin, özellikle bir internet bağlantısının yerine görevleri yerine getirir.

host : used in TCP/IP networking to mean an end system device.

segment : to refer to a specific physical region of a network (Turkey network, Southern segment)

backbone : a fast link between segments

node : It is any device that can communicate on the network via one or more network interfaces.

transmission medium : iletişim araçları, ortamları

LAN hariç public IP adresleri kullanılır, LAN’ da private IP kullanılır.

Tüm routerler birbirilerine mesh topology ile bağlıdır.
